Nice. It appears to be available from the Ubuntu repos.
At a lower level, also available from Ubuntu repos, is smartctl. It is
for querying and manipulating the drive's onboard test software. It has
a GUI, gsmartcontrol.
How badly damaged is the drive? Can you even see it with "fdisk -l"?
