Modern Partimage

A few years ago I used partimage to make disk images of Linux and 
Windows boxes to manage a dozen computers, and it was great. I used it 
to keep a "gold" snapshot point to which I could restore for software 
testing purposes.

Do people still recommend partimage, or has a more impressive 
alternative emerged of late?

P.S. I *would* use virtualization for this purpose today, but I only 
have older hardware at the moment that would suck in a virtualized 
environment.
