Portable AC power source?

If you're on the road, would a standard 12 V Inverter work?  I use one
to run my laptop and hard drives from my car.  I have a 130 Watt
inverter, but you can buy them as big as you want.

Harbor freight has a whole line of inverters ($20 for a 80 watt one).
