anyone familiar w/sun hardware, and sun OpenBoot?

I've search several sun hardware groups, several sun hardware faqs, and still, 
I can't find anything that describes this behavior.
I've removed both the RSC card, and the vga card, leaving only the serial 
connection.
When I boot into diagnostic mode I see:

System is operating in Service Mode.

Reading temperature limits from FRUPROMs: CPU0/2 CPU1/3 MB I/O DBP0   

Environmental monitor is ON
{3} ok 


At which point it accepts no input. Bugger.
