Typically, LDAP is used for user information and Kerberos is used for
authentication. Authentication and authorization are two different
things (that's why /etc/shadow exists).
However, for small installations, using LDAP for user information and
LDAP simple binds for authentication is often used.
Using Samba is, in my opinion, overkill without Windows clients, but who
knows. Maybe winbind is the way to go. I dunno.
