I had the same idea, almost tried it too.  The problem with this is that
ear buds need the open air around them in order to move freely to
produce decent sound.  If you enclose them in industrial ear muffs you
have shut out other sounds but also suppressed the drivers in the ear
buds.

If you're not an audiophile anyway then you may be very happy with this
solution.  And for $2 just to try it's not a bad gamble.  Just be warned
that this reduces the quality of sound your ear buds are able to make.
