ifplugd replacement?

I gave that a shot (replacing "x68" with "sparc"), without any luck.
Portage still says it's blocked by a missing keyword.  I opened up the
ebuild file and 'sparc' was not in the list of KEYWORDS.

Has anyone on the list ever used anything other than ifplugd for
backgrounding the network service?
