ifplugd replacement?

I discovered ifplugd a few months ago as a splendid way of backgrounding
DHCP when my net.eth0 service starts up (I'm running Gentoo, btw).  Since I
don't always have an ethernet cable plugged in, this has been fantastic for
me, and it has worked like the so-called charm.

I want to use ifplugd on a Gentoo SPARC machine, but there isn't an ebuild
available for the SPARC platform.  Does anyone know what I can use instead?
There has to be something.  Am I wrong?
