looking for laptop

I have a MackBook Pro Core Duo from my work, my only isssue is the DVD 
drive will not read DVD-R discs and  I have to say that it pretty lame.
I can see maybe not Burning DVD-R but it should be able to read them. It 
will read DVD+R

Also I do love all the unix features ...  Keyboard and Display is Nice!
