Position Summary

This position will be responsible for the full architecture, design,
implementation, and coordination of the ongoing support of
multi-tiered MySQL and PostgreSQL database infrastructures at Red Hat.
The person in this position will be responsible for the following:

    * Analyze Red Hat's current database infrastructure
    * Analyze Red Hat's database requirements
    * Identify potential issues and limitations
    * Diagnose issues in complex application architectures
    * Improve database infrastructure, architecture, and design
    * Install, Configure and Administer MySQL

Apply the latest patches and version upgrades

    * Schedule Backup & Recovery
    * Set-up and manage Replication
    * Secure Red Hat's database environment
    * Benchmark, load test, and optimize critical SQL queries
    * Proactively manage performance and capacity planning
    * Implement best practices and recommend tools for managing Red
Hat's database infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will have experience in one or more (or all!) of
the following:

    * Web Applications
    * Online Transaction Processing (OLTP)
    * Data Warehousing
    * Online Analytical Processing (OLAP)
    * High Availability
    * Load Balancing
    * Embedded Systems
    * Search Applications

  	
Requirements

This position will be responsible for all aspects of database
administration of MySQL and PostgreSQL and developer support for
applications administration including:

    * Capacity planning, performance tuning, backup and recovery
architecture, software release management, 24x7 production and
operational support
    * Working closely with other team members to identify and
implement continuous improvement, new or enhanced measurement reports
and effective problem resolution
    * Establish and implement application infrastructure policies,
procedures and standards, and ensure their conformance
    * Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related field
    * At least 2 years of professional experience in installation,
upgrade, migration, cloning, patch application, troubleshooting
technical issues and documentation of both MySQL and PostgreSQL
databases
    * Must have strong Unix skills, preferably Linux
    * Must have the ability and experience in installing other third
applications that integrate with the database platforms
    * Must have technical ability and self initiative to learn and
implement new concepts in a short time
    * Well organized and able to prioritize tasks
    * Experience with Oracle Applications, and Oracle Database a plus
    * Certified DBA a plus
    * Working knowledge of Multi-master Replication a plus
    * Strong written and verbal communications skills
    * Able to work closely with cross-functional teams, applications
users and other technical groups
    * Able to work independently
