Laptop resume time from sleep

I have a T41 (2379-DJU). Sometimes it takes 2 seconds and sometimes it
takes 10. I could never figure out why the wait changes all time time.
I also have the problem of major battery drain while in sleep mode,
and thats on Windows or in Linux.
