My sister has been on iProvo/MSTAR for a few months now. We had some
initial setup troubles that the average user wouldn't have gone
through but it was stupid stuff like, "Oh... um, that computer doesn't
have a NIC yet... um... lemme run home and get a router." My server
is hosted there so I'd know if things were broken. Service has been
great so far and the bandwidth was as-advertised.
Oh, she hates the voice-prompty voice-mail thing. I agree, DTMF is
way more reliable and you don't have to feel like an idiot saying,
"get messages," "cancel," "delete."
She doesn't use the TV service so I can't say anything about that.
I'd also like to say, though, that I'm not in favor of HOAs taking on
the role of ISP. Maybe that's just a personal preference but I think
it sucks when I want to use a different provider and I can't because
I'm already paying for it in my HOA fee.
On the other hand you can save a lot of money, but if that means I
can't get a public IP address it's not worth it to me.
So my advice: Provide the service (at the reduced cost) but make it
an itemized charge that people can choose not to pay.
