SVN ignore

I would like to do the equivalent of a .cvsignore with subversion. I  
have found some documents on the net describing how to do repository- 
wide ignores (that effect all checkouts of all users), but not  
individual, custom ones that one would set in his own sandbox. Does  
anyone have experience with this?
