You USED to be able to get 1000 ft for $50, but not anymore. Now it's closer
to $70. Home Depot's prices on bulk cable aren't bad. PC Club has some as
well, but they have limited quantity compared to Home Depot.
As far as connectors and jacks, stay away from Home Depot as they are kind of
pricey. I usually buy them online or from C.E.D. or Codale. Same with the
networking tools: online or wholesalers.
One place I've found some good stuff at is: < http://www.deepsurplus.com/ >
They include a bag of Skittles with every order. I shouldn't appreciate that
as I'm diabetic, but it's the gesture that counts, I guess.
