Thunderbird & IMAP

We recently upgrade our mail server from POP3 to IMAP.  Now my 
Thunderbird clients can't send email.  Everytime I try to send it 
requests a password, but won't accept it.  Both my XP machine and my 
Linux machine exhibit the same behavior.

Until I can get this resolved, I'm forced to use Outlook.  Can anyone 
help resolve this issue and save me from Gates of Outlook?
