I agree - check the OpenWRT hardware list and go from there.

The Asus WL-500g Deluxe is a tad bit expensive at $115 but kicks butt
with OpenWRT. It has 32MB ram and supports USB 2.0 for external
storage. If anybody else knows of a piece of OpenWRT supported
hardware that can match those features at a better price, do tell.
