And this is why Gentoo users are sometimes mocked. :)

When I used Gentoo, I only ever told it to compile things like  
openoffice and Mozilla once.  I always emerged the -bin versions  
afterwards, after realizing how obscenely long it takes to compile  
these huge C++ projects.
