help with Debian install and dselect

I second the notion to do a base install, then get the packages you
need via apt-get (preferably installing from the Internet). The
original poster said "no outside thing is connected to the box" which
led me to believe he was forced to use the CDs for install.

If that is the case, I believe you can run "apt-setup", then pick the
CDs as the install source. then run apt-get to install software from
CD.
