Sun vs PC

In 3 years of doing MySQL support, I have never logged in to a Sparc with any 
number of CPUs that could outperform the top end fairly low priced one CPU AMD 
on a multi-threaded benchmark of repeated random indexed selects of one record. 
All Sparcs did scale nearly perfectly, though, but that scalability was just not 
enough to reach the sheer power of a fast AMD.
