my cable modem hates splitters

Had the same problem several times.  The problem is signal strength.  A few 
questions I have for you:

1.  How many cable connections do you have coming out of your walls?
2.  Is the Internet and TV signal coming from the same wall outlet?

When the cable company installs your high speed connection, they generally 
choose once wall outlet to send the most signal strength.  If you move your 
computer to another room, you will notice a weaker signal.  You can call 
them and they will switch most juice to go to whichever outlet your computer 
is connected to.

If you are already on the main outlet, call your cable company.  They will 
come out and look at it.
