Amavisd handles the configuration and plumping between the SMTP server,
spam filter and the virus checker.

After getting that installed, it's cake to set up ClamAV and have
Amavisd take care of handing it off to the scanner.  It can also work
with about any other scanner as a back-end.

That's worked well for me.
