adding a new scsi drive

When adding a new SCSI hard disk (LVD), it is not recognized.  This 
machine is in FL, so I do not have direct access to it.  The system has 
RH7.3 with a 2.4.21 kernel.

I seem to recall that rebooting found the drive.  This I cannot do until 
after 10pm.  Is there another way to have it detect the drive?  Note the 
boot drive is on the same controller as the new drive.  I am using ssh 
to access the box.
