February PLUG Meeting: Intro to Hadoop

Date: February 9th, 2011
Time: 7:30 PM
Location: Adobe, Omniture Business Unit

This is the rescheduled Hadoop meeting, as promised.

Hadoop is an open-source MapReduce framework inspired by Google’s
MapReduce and Google File System (GFS) papers. It’s used to process
“Big Data” (petabytes) by distributing work across tens, hundreds, or
thousands of nodes in a cluster. Hadoop is used by Google, eBay,
Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo!, Adobe, StumbleUpon, LinkedIn, Intel, Tynt,
and many other notable shops with Big Data processing requirements.

About the Presenter:

Bryan Sant is a high school dropout who’s been writing software
professionally since the ripe age of 15. He’s worked with a lot of
software that manipulates Big Data for various companies. Bryan is
currently working with the Canadians to take over the world.
Occasionally Bryan gets paid to hurt people in front of large crowds.

October PLUG Meeting: Open

Date: October 13th, 2010
Time: 7:30 PM
Location: Adobe, Omniture Business Unit

Our meeting format will be open. You are welcome to bring up any item for discussion. A projector and podium will be available depending on crowd size. Topics are open, anything that might interest the group is appropriate. After our discussion we will have drinks in the lobby. Feel free to bring cookies or a light snack to share.

Possible ideas: Demo an interesting application, give a review of your new gadget, expound the virtues of emacs, share your sjansen sonnets, ask how Linux can be used to control your toaster.
